2013

So far this year my time has been spent working on a couple group show pieces along with a donation AND FINALLY! designing my website.  Yeah, I'm a little embarrassed I haven't had one til now.  There are so many great do-it-yourself companies out there.  And if I can do it, trust me, anybody can!  Until I am able to post some new work, here is one in The Birchwood Show.

Bring in the NEW!

I feel pretty spent after working towards a show.  The current one is all animals.  Twenty-four or so in all.  "I can't do another animal-ever again" was a thought that came in my head at one point towards the end.  Oh well I know I will because I currently have a couple animal projects for people that need to get in-the-works BUT a new year brings new excitement for me as an artist.  Especially when it coincides with the end of a project.  I am psyched to get going but first a few business things need attention-a new website and updating other vehicles that show my work online.
Stay tuned!  Until then here's [an older]one in my current show in Minneapolis.

Don't Eat Crow

acrylic on old cutting board
2012

Another one for my show at The Birchwood.  It was a nice coincidence that this was painted on a cutting board.  I didn't consciously make that decision.  I love text simply for the texture it makes.

Tres Chihuahuas Ciegos!

(Three Blind Chihuahuas!)

2012
11x12
acrylic on wood

I often paint over my paintings.  They sit around, I start another one, and then go back to the one that I'm not satisfied with and start "repurposing".  This started as mice-Three Blind Mice.  It was cute and all but I didn't like it.  It looked too much like...mice.  Maybe it was because it wasn't my story.  When I transformed them into chihuahuas it all made sense to me.

From Asp to Aviary

I often paint over paintings that I'm just not "feeling"  The snake was one of them.  You can still see parts of it showing through.  I love painting over old (and new!) paintings-much to my husbands chagrin.  They're more textured and more interesting to me.

'Misunderstood'

11 x 11 acrylic on wood panel
Crows.  Seems you either love 'em or hate 'em.  I have a healthy respect for them.  In other words they kind of scare me but I think they are also misunderstood by many.  As I learn more I paint them more.
